Ecosystems Research
Gerard (Gerry) F. Laniak
My career efforts have focused on providing modeling based tools and application methods in the context of EPA regulatory decision-making. Regulatory problem statements have evolved during the past two decades from single media, single chemical, single exposure pathway concerns to human and ecological assessments of risk and to multiple stressors via a range of naturally occurring exposure pathways. The primary challenge is in integrating the multi-disciplinary science and modeling required to address the problem statements. Through these efforts we have learned that technology integration drives science integration and, to that end, all collaborative efforts have centered around developing and/or applying integrated technologies.
