Intended audience
The purpose of this web site is to fill a gap between the detailed mathematical explanations of statistical methods provide by textbooks, and the relatively brief descriptions of statistical tests reported as results in the peer-reviewed literature related to biological monitoring. Presented here are short, narrative descriptions of statistical methods, iconic representations, detailed examples, and many comparisons that provide the user with a sense of how each method works and a feel for how it can be applied to real data.
The content was designed for a technical and scientific, though not necessarily statistical, audience. The target audience includes managers, scientists, and students involved with the development of monitoring protocols for the protection of surface waters under the Clean Water Act. Examples were selected to be relevant to this audience.
