General Electric (GE), the City of Pittsfield, and the Pittsfield Economic Development Authority (PEDA) have entered into the Definitive Economic Development Agreement. Under the agreement, GE is cleaning up its Plant Site to the agreed upon Consent Decree standards, demolished several buildings, is providing some funding for constructing new buildings, and transfer portions of the property to PEDA for economic redevelopment. In addition, GE is providing economic aid to the City of Pittsfield for 10 years and making upgrades to the Plant Site and Silver Lake that will have aesthetic value and enhance local habitat.

GE has completed the demolition of all buildings and has performed the required cleanup on the Former 20s and 30s Complexes. On May 2, 2005, GE transferred ownership of the 20s (10.21 acres) and the 30s (15.75 acres) to PEDA. As of May 2006, GE has demolished all the buildings on the 40s Complex as well as Buildings 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 in the East Street Area 2 North Area. GE is on target to perform the demolition of 5 remaining buildings in the East Street Area 2 North Area and complete the cleanup activities in both the 40s and in East Street Area 2 North in the next two years. Transfer of ownership of the 40s Complex (9 acres) and a portion of East Street Area 2 North (17 acres) to PEDA will follow these activities. In addition, another example of reuse following the EPA-directed cleanup is the establishment in the summer of 2004 of the Mark Belanger Memorial Baseball Field, in a previously-contaminated area along East Street at the GE facility.
