EPA to Hold Information Session in Brooksville, ME

Boston - EPA New England will hold an information session in Brooksville, ME, to discuss an opportunity for a $50,000 grant to qualified groups of individuals concerned about the Callahan Mine Superfund Site. The site was added to the National Priorities List (commonly called the Superfund) earlier this month.

Mike McGagh, from EPA's Boston office will provide important information on the agency's Technical Assistance Grants (TAGs). These grants allow communities to hire an independent expert to help them interpret technical data, understand site hazards, and become more knowledgeable about the different technologies that may be used to clean up a site. Only one TAG is awarded per site.

The Maine Environmental Research Institute (MERI) has notified EPA of its intent to apply for a TAG. Other interested groups have until September 24, 2002 to contact MERI to form a coalition and submit one application.

If groups are unable to form a coalition, EPA will accept separate applications from all groups until 10/21/02.
