Two public information meetings will be held in October in Worcester, MA and Manchester, NH regarding new EPA grants being made available for Brownfields site assessments, cleanups and revolving loan programs. These free meetings provide a great opportunity to learn about the Brownfields application process and better understand the new grant proposal criteria. There have been changes to the process and criteria since last year, so if you attended last year, it would be worth the trip to attend once again. The meetings will be held from 8 am to 12:30 pm Oct. 8 at the Center of New Hampshire Holiday Inn in Manchester, NH and Oct. 14 at the Holiday Inn in Worcester. The new round of grants will be funded from next year’s Fiscal Year 2004 budget. President Bush has requested $210 million of funding for the program. The funding comes on the heels of $73 million of Brownfields grants awarded nationwide this summer, including $11.2 million to two-dozen communities, agencies and organizations in New England. Since 1995, EPA has provided more than $73.9 million of Brownfields assistance – for grants, site evaluations, job training and cleanup loan programs – to dozens of communities and agencies around New England. The assistance has led to 630 site assessments, more than 100 cleanups and thousands of new jobs across the region.
