EPA New England and the Kraft Group, owners of the New England Patriots, are holding an all-day conference Wednesday Aug. 4 to educate the development community and New England municipalities about redevelopment opportunities at contaminated properties around the region. The conference will be held at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro. The conference – “Improve Your Field Position: Contaminated to Commercially Viable” – is designed to bridge the information gap separating developers, municipalities and federal/state agencies, and to facilitate partnerships that will result in more properties being reused. Participants will also learn about environmentally-sound development and how integrating these practices can positively impact a project’s bottom line. Attendees will hear from government policymakers, experts on state and federal cleanup programs and developers with experience in developing contaminated sites. Booths also will be set up with information on cleanup programs, redevelopment tools and other key information. Municipalities will also have booths to showcase their properties. “New England is uniquely positioned with thousands of underutilized properties that are ripe for redevelopment,” said EPA-NE’s Regional Administrator Robert W. Varney. “This conference is a golden opportunity for developers and public officials to learn about the many opportunities that exist for turning these ‘eyesore’ properties into community jewels.” The fee for attending the conference is $40 and pre-registration is required. Registration forms and conference fees must be received by July 29.
