Proposal Guidelines for Job Training Grants
EPA is requesting proposals for brownfields job training grants.
The goals of the Job Training Program are to prepare trainees for
future employment in the environmental field and facilitate cleanup
of brownfield sites contaminated with hazardous substances, pollutants,
or contaminants and petroleum. Proposals due January 14, 2005.

- EPA Administrator Signs Proposed Rule on All Appropriate
Inquiries
EPA's Proposed Rule: Standards and Practices for All Appropriate Inquiries
was signed by the EPA Administrator and published in the Federal Register
on August 26, 2004. The proposed rule would establish specific regulatory
requirements for conducting all appropriate inquiries into the previous
ownership, uses, and environmental conditions of a property for the
purposes of qualifying for certain landowner liability protections
under CERCLA. EPA developed the proposed rule using a Negotiated Rulemaking

- Proposal Guidelines for Brownfields Assessment, Revolving
Loan Fund, and Cleanup Grants
EPA is accepting proposals for brownfields assessment, revolving loan
fund and cleanup grants. These grants are part of the Small Business
Liability Relief and Brownfields Revitalization Act to help states
and communities around the country clean up and revitalize Brownfield

- 42 States, Puerto Rico, Five Tribes Share Record $75.4 Million
in Brownfields Grants
Communities in 42 states and Puerto Rico will share more than $75
million in EPA Brownfields grants to help revitalize former industrial
and commercial sites, turning them from problem properties to productive
community use. The grants were announced by EPA Administrator Mike
Leavitt at the site of a former metal foundry in Milwaukee.

- Brownfields Envirofacts/EnviroMapper Tools Now Available for
Use on the Web
EPA's Office of Brownfields Cleanup and Redevelopment (OBCR) introduced
the Envirofacts and EnviroMapper tools, available through the Brownfields
Web site. These two functions will be available with specific EPA-brownfields
data - both Pilot/Grantee service areas and select property information.
Brownfields Envirofacts and EnviroMapper are designed to be an integrated
point of access to find and map U.S. EPA Brownfields environmental
data included in EPA's Brownfields Management System (BMS). The tools
also provide access to several other EPA databases that provide the
user with information about environmental activities that may affect
air, water, and land anywhere in the United States. For more information,

- Over 1,000 to be Trained for Environmental Jobs in Brownfields
Communities Nationwide
In its ongoing efforts to promote economic revitalization and safeguard
the environment and public health, EPA announced the awarding of its
second round of Brownfields Job Training Grants under the new Small
Business Liability Relief and Brownfields Revitalization Act of 2002.
The second round of grants include EPA's selection of 16 recipients
for funded Brownfields Job Training and Development Demonstration
Grants totaling $2.47 Million.
