| City of Gretna Makes $103,500 Loan to Clean Up 225 5th Street Parking Lot Site |
| On November 8, 2002, the City of Gretna borrowed $50,000 from the
City of Gretna's Brownfields Cleanup Revolving Loan Fund (BCRLF) program,
marking the first loan agreement under this program. On April 12, 2004, the
City of Gretna amended the agreement to increase the loan to $103,500 total.
The loan was made possible through grants awarded by EPA to the City of Gretna,
which capitalized the loan fund at $500,000. The loan will assist with cleanup costs
for the 225 5th Street Parking Lot site, a gravel parking lot which was found to be
contaminated with asbestos containing material (ACM) mixed in with the gravel and soil.
The city plans to expand their Public Works facility on the property. The property is
also entered into the State's Voluntary Cleanup Program. The city believes that this
was a good learning experience that will result in additional loans in the future.
