Hennepin County Makes $450,000 Loan to Clean Up 825 Thornton Avenue Property |
On October 2, 2002, Hennepin County in Minnesota loaned $450,000 to East River Mews, LLC to assist with cleanup costs and the purchase of pollution legal liability insurance associated with the 4.6-acre 825 Thornton Avenue property. This loan was made possible through a $1 million EPA Brownfields Revolving Loan Fund (RLF) grant awarded to Hennepin County in September 1999. The majority of the cleanup was completed in November 2002. All of the approximately 50,000 cubic yards of soil contaminated with chlorinated volatile organic compounds, petroleum, and pesticides was removed by April 2003. East River Mews, LLC has constructed 38 townhomes and 14 condominiums at 825 Thornton Avenue with a total market value estimated at $15.8 million.
