Land-of-Sky Regional Council Makes $50,000 Sub-Grant to Clean Up Heart of Fletcher Property
On May 8, 2006, the Land-of-Sky Regional Council sub-granted $50,000 to the Town of Fletcher, North Carolina to assist with cleanup of the Heart of Fletcher property. This loan was made possible through a $1,000,000 EPA Brownfields Revolving Loan Fund (RLF) grant awarded to the Land-of-Sky Regional Council (LOSRC) in 2004. LOSRC previously used a portion of its $200,000 Brownfields Assessment grant to assist the Town with assessments on the property and the town also received a $200,000 Brownfields Cleanup grant in 2005 to target the Heart of Fletcher. In addition to EPA funding, the Town of Fletcher leveraged $625,000 from state and local sources. Cleanup of the property was complete in June of 2007, and the Town is currently exploring redevelopment options. Redevelopment plans for this property include a new town hall and community center with a mixed-use downtown area including small business and commercial space. For more information about this sub-grant or the Land-of-Sky Regional Council EPA Brownfields Revolving Loan Fund, contact the EPA Region 4 Brownfields Coordinator at (404) 562-8682.
