Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Makes $900,000 Loan to Clean Up a Former Industrial Park

On November 30, 2007, the Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources loaned $900,000 to the Reno Sparks Indian Colony to assist with cleanup costs associated with a former industrial park. This loan was made possible through a $2,000,000 EPA Brownfields Revolving Loan Fund (RLF) grant awarded to the Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources in 2001. The cleanup, which has yet to begin, will involve the removal of petroleum, construction debris, lead and additional contamination from the property. This is the first loan in the State of Nevada to an Indian community. The property will be redeveloped into "Three Nations Plaza;" a retail store that is expected to generate jobs and revenue in the community. For more information about this loan or the Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources EPA Brownfields Revolving Loan Fund, contact the EPA Region 9 Brownfields Coordinator at (415) 972-3092.
