New Mexico Environment Department Makes $342,560 Loan to Clean Up Hillcrest Hospital |
On October 19, 2006, the New Mexico Environment Department loaned $342,560 to the Town of Silver City to assist with cleanup costs associated with Hillcrest Hospital. This loan was made possible through a $1,000,000 EPA Brownfields Revolving Loan Fund (RLF) grant awarded to the New Mexico Environment Department in 2002. The cleanup, which was completed in January 2007, involved the removal of asbestos and lead paint from soil on the property. In addition to EPA funding, the Town of Silver City leveraged $200,000 in cleanup funding through federal, local and private partnerships. Hillcrest Hospital has been demolished and the site is ready for redevelopment. For more information about this loan or the New Mexico Environment Department EPA Brownfields Revolving Loan Fund, contact the EPA Region 6 Brownfields Coordinator at (214) 665-6780. |
