| City of New Milford Makes $700,000 Loan to Clean Up the Century Enterprise Center Site
|
| On October 1, 2002, the New Milford Economic Development Commission, borrowed $700,000 from the City of New Milford Brownfields Cleanup Revolving Loan Fund program, which is the first loan agreement under this program. This loan was made possible through grants awarded by EPA to the City of New Milford, which capitalized the loan fund with $1,000,000. The loan will assist with cleanup costs at the Center Enterprise Center, the former Century Brass Products site in New Milford, CT. The 72-acre former brass rolling and finishing mill represents over 13 percent of the town's entire industrial zoned acreage. It is contaminated with polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and hydroxide sludge from past industrial activity. Once the cleanup is completed, the town plans to market this 72-acre property for revenue-generating industrial or commercial reuse. New Milford has leveraged an additional $500,000 under Connecticut's Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP) to be used for additional cleanup and improve access to the property. For further information about this loan or the New Milford Brownfields Cleanup Revolving Loan Fund, contact the EPA Region 1 Brownfields Coordinator at (617) 918-1221.
