| City of Sacramento Makes Two Loans to Clean Up R Street Warehouse |
| On June 28, 2002, the Capital Area Development Authority (CADA) borrowed $250,000 from the City of Sacramento's Brownfields Cleanup Revolving Loan Fund (RLF) program to assist with cleanup costs for the former R Street Warehouse. On December 15, 2004, CADA borrowed an additional $200,000 from the city's RLF program. The loans were made possible through a $500,000 grant awarded to the City of Sacramento by EPA to capitalize a brownfields cleanup revolving loan fund. The additional loan will continue to assist with cleanup costs for the project. The aged but still solid warehouse is located in Sacramento's historic R Street Corridor, whose roots go back to the mid-1800s, tracing the line of California's first railroad operation, making it one of the city's oldest warehouse and industrial districts. CADA plans to clean up the warehouse in preparation for redevelopment as condominiums. This project is expected to catalyze redevelopment of the entire R Street Corridor into an office, housing and retail area and possibly a regional center for the arts. For more information about this loan or the City of Sacramento EPA Brownfields Cleanup Revolving Loan Fund, contact the EPA Region 9 Brownfields Coordinator at (415) 972-3092. |
