FOR RELEASE: January 5, 2001BROWNFIELDS INITIATIVE SEEKS SECOND ROUND OF PROJECTSTo prevent future contamination and encourage reuse of facilities regulated by the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), EPA is seeking applications by Feb. 1 for six new pilot projects under the second round of the Brownfields Prevention Initiative. projects. The sites for these four pilots were CBS/Viacom facility in
Bridgeport, Conn.; the Bethlehem Steel Corporation site in Lackawanna,
N.Y.; the PEPCO Energy facility in Chester, Pa.; and the Blue Valley
Redevelopment site in Kansas City, Mo. These sites have already yielded
results and innovations that can be used at other sites. All sites have
cleanup and redevelopment plans well underway, and all have benefitted
by cutting red tape and encouraging effective communication among all
government levels, key decision makers, and communities.More information
