- $6.8 Million in Recovery Act Funds for Brownfields Environmental Job Training
Fourteen communities in eight states will share $6.8 million in Brownfields Job Training Grants geared toward cleaning up contaminated properties and turning them into productive community assets. These grants are funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, under its Brownfields Program is awarding grants of up to $500,000 each to eligible governmental entities and non-profit organizations. The grants will teach environmental assessment and cleanup job skills to individuals living in areas near brownfields sites in California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Missouri, New York, Ohio, and Washington.- EPA Press Release

Communities in 46 states, four Tribes, and two U.S. Territories will share $111.9 million in EPA Brownfields grants. These communities will share $111.9 million in EPA Brownfields grants to help revitalize former industrial and commercial sites, turning them from problem properties to productive community use. The grants include $37.3 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 that President Obama signed into law on February 17, 2009, and $74.6 million from the EPA brownfields general program funding. Since the beginning of the Brownfields Program, EPA has awarded 1450 assessment grants totaling $337.5 million, 242 revolving loan fund grants totaling $233.5 million and 538 cleanup grants totaling $99 million. - Job Training Grants
Thirteen communities in 12 states will share $2.6 million in job training grants geared toward cleaning up contaminated properties and turning them into productive community assets. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, under its Brownfields Program is awarding grants of $200,000 each to non-profit organizations, workforce investment boards, and state and local governments. The grants will teach environmental assessment and cleanup job skills to individuals living in areas near brownfields sites in Ark., Calif., Conn., Ill., Ind., Md., Mass., Mich., N.J., Oreg., Tenn., and Wis.

- Training, Research, and Technical Assistance
EPA is providing $1.5 million of funding for new Brownfields Training, Research, and Technical Assistance Grants. This money will provide information, training, tools, and technical assistance to brownfields stakeholders. - Sustainability Pilots
EPA is providing technical assistance for the sustainable assessment, cleanup, and redevelopment of community brownfields projects. Assistance will support activities such as the reuse and recycling of construction and demolition materials, green building and infrastructure design, energy efficiency, water conservation, renewable energy development, and native landscaping. - Supplemental Funding for Revolving Loan Fund Grants

The grants will teach environmental assessment and cleanup job skills to individuals living in low-income areas near brownfields sites in Ala., Calif., La., Mass., N.C., Nev., N.Y., Okla., Pa., and Wash. - Technical Assistance to Brownfields Communities (TAB)
The U. S. Environmental Protection Agency recently selected four new TAB grantees. The TAB grantees include the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), Enterprise Corporation of the Delta, Kansas State University, and the Center for Creative Land Recycling (CCLR). The TAB grantees will help communities tackle the challenge of cleaning up and redeveloping brownfield sites by providing geographically-based technical assistance and training to communities and other stakeholders on brownfield issues. Since the beginning of the Brownfields program, EPA has awarded 883 assessment grants totaling $225.4 million, 202 revolving loan fund grants totaling $186.7 million, and 238 cleanup grants totaling $42.7 million. - Job Training Grants
The EPA today announced the selection of twelve communities to share a total of $2 million in brownfields job training grants. Grants of up to $200,000 each will go to non-profit organizations, educational institutions, community colleges, tribes, and state and local governments. This new round of Brownfields Job Training Grants will teach environmental-cleanup job skills to individuals living in low income areas near Brownfields sites in 11 states (Connecticut, Delaware, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Montana, New York, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Washington, and West Virginia).

EPA's Office of Brownfields Cleanup and Redevelopment names six organizations as recipients of a combined $1.4 million in Brownfields Training, Research and Technical Assistance Grants. The grants announced provide research, training and technical assistance to enable communities to stimulate economic and beneficial uses of brownfields.Funding for the brownfields training, research, and technical assistance grants and cooperative agreements is authorized under 104(k)(6) of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act of 1980, as amended, (CERCLA or Superfund), 42 U.S.C. 9604(k)(6). - Assessment, Revolving Loan Fund, & Cleanup Grants Communities in 44 states will share more than $76 million in U.S. Environmental Protection Agency brownfields grants to help revitalize former industrial and commercial sites, transforming them from problem properties into community assets. "The Brownfields Program puts both property and people back to work," EPA Administrator Steve Johnson said. "These grants will help communities across America convert eyesores into engines of economic rebirth."

Communities in 42 states and Puerto Rico will share more than $75 million in EPA Brownfields grants to help revitalize former industrial and commercial sites, turning them from problem properties to productive community use. The grants were announced today by EPA Administrator Mike Leavitt at the site of a former metal foundry in Milwaukee. - Job Training Grants
In its ongoing efforts to promote economic revitalization and safeguard the environment and public health, EPA announced the awarding of its second round of Brownfields Job Training Grants under the new Small Business Liability Relief and Brownfields Revitalization Act of 2002. The second round of grants include EPA's selection of 16 recipients for funded Brownfields Job Training and Development Demonstration Grants totaling $2.47 Million.

In its ongoing efforts to promote economic revitalization and safeguard the environment and public health, EPA Administrator Christie Whitman today announced the awarding of its first Brownfields Job Training grants under the new Small Business Liability Relief and Brownfields Revitalization Act of 2002.

EPA has selected 11 supplemental pilot grants totaling $675,000 under the Brownfields Job Training and Development Demonstration Pilots. These are the second round of supplemental Brownfields job training pilot grants to be awarded (the first round was in May). In communities impacted by Brownfields, project officials will use the supplemental funding to continue their efforts to train residents in procedures for the handling and removal of hazardous substances. - Assessment Demonstration Pilots
