Off-site Disposal or Other Releases include from Section 6.2 Underground Injection (M71), RCRA Subtitle C Landfills (M65), Other Landfills (M64, M72), Storage Only (M10), Solidification/Stabilization - Metals and Metal Compounds only (M41 or M40), Wastewater Treatment (excluding POTWs) - Metals and Metal Compounds only (M62 or M61), Surface Impoundments (M63), Land Treatment (M73), Other Land Disposal (M79), Other Off-site Management (M90), Transfers to Waste Broker - Disposal (M94, M91), and Unknown (M99) and, from Section 6.1 Transfers to POTWs (metals and metal compounds only).

Off-site disposal or other releases show only net off-site disposal or other releases, that is, off-site disposal or other releases transferred to other TRI facilities reporting such transfers as on-site disposal or other releases are not included to avoid double counting.

Transfers to Recycling are Section 6.2, sum of Solvents/Organics Recovery (M20), Metals Recovery (M24), Other Reuse or Recovery (M26), Acid Regeneration (M28) and Transfer to Waste Broker - Recycling (M93)). Transfers to Energy Recovery are Section 6.2, sum of Energy Recovery (M56) and Transfer to Waste Broker - Energy Recovery (M92)). Transfers to Treatment are Section 6.2, sum of Solidification/Stabilization (M40, except for metals and metal compounds), Incineration/Thermal Treatment (M50), Incineration/Insignificant Fuel Value (M54), Wastewater Treatment (excluding POTWs) (M61, except for metals and metal compounds), Other Waste Treatment (M69) and Transfer to Waste Broker - Waste Treatment (M95)). Transfers to POTWs (non-metals) are Section 6.1 (except metals and metal compounds). Transfers to POTWs (metals and metal compounds) are Section 6.1 (metals and metal compounds only). Other off-site transfers are Section 6.2 sum of amounts with no code or invalid code.
Other transfers off-site to disposal or other releases do not include transfers to POTWS of metals and metal compounds and are Section 6.2, sum of Underground Injection (M71), RCRA Subtitle C Landfills (M65), Other Landfills (M64), Storage Only (M10), Solidification/Stabilization - Metals and Metal Compounds only (M41), Solidification/Stabilization (M40 metals and metal compounds only), Wastewater Treatment (excluding POTWs) - Metals and Metal Compounds only (M62), Wastewater Treatment (excluding POTWs) (M61 metals and metal compounds only), Surface Impoundments (M63), Land Treatment (M73), Other Land Disposal (M79), Other Off-site Management (M90), Transfers to Waste Broker - Disposal (M94 or M91), and Unknown (M99).

A choropleth map is a map which colors regions or areas according to the value of data defined for that area. The choropleth maps presented here color states, or counties, according to aggregations of TRI data reported by facilities in that area. Coloring an area with one color is not meant to imply that the TRI amounts are uniformly distributed throughout that area; instead it should be interpreted as a color representing, for example, the total amounts reported by facilities in that area. Choropleth maps are one of the most commonly used means of displaying areal data.
