On May 22, the EPA Combined Heat and Power Partnership (CHPP) presented at the Environmental and Energy Study Institute (EESI) briefing: How Combined Heat and Power Saves Money, Reduces Emissions and Improves Energy Security. The briefing discussed how CHP technology can provide critical facilities (e.g. hospitals, wastewater treatment), businesses, institutions, and communities with more resilient and reliable heat and power, while at the same time reducing energy costs and harmful emissions over time. The CHPP presentation focused on EPA and other federal efforts to promote the environmental, economic, and resiliency benefits of CHP.

103rd IDEA Annual Conference and Trade Show

June 29 - July 2, 2012

On July 2, the EPA Combined Heat and Power Partnership (CHPP) presented during the 103rd IDEA Annual Conference and Trade Show. The conference brought together energy professionals for workshops, panel discussions, presentations, networking and exhibits. The topics of the CHPP presentations were "Fuel and CO2 Emissions Savings Calculation Methodology for CHP" and "Credits for Combined Heat and Power (CHP) in Output-Based Environmental Regulations (OBR)."

June 20-22, 2012

On June 21, the EPA Combined Heat and Power Partnership (CHPP) presented at NYSERDA's CHP Conference. The conference included information on CHP programs at NYSERDA, successful CHP installations, future CHP program elements, and regional resources available. Utah Energy Development Summit

February 15, 2012

On February 15, the EPA Combined Heat and Power Partnership (CHPP) presented at the Utah Energy Development Summit. The summit covered five tracks - conventional, unconventional, energy efficiency, renewable and additional energy sources. The topic of the CHPP presentation was "Output-Based Regulations A Demonstration of CHP's Benefits in Added Power Production and Emissions Reduction."

IDEA's 25th Annual Campus Energy Conference

February 6-9, 2012

IDEA's Annual Campus Energy Conference fosters a collegial peer exchange between industry professionals who build, maintain, operate and optimize district energy systems to meet challenging economic objectives, regulatory requirements and aggressive sustainability goals.

The EPA CHP Partnership participated in this year's Conference by exhibiting and hosting an ENERGY STAR CHP Awards Ceremony recognizing CHP systems at military bases.

January 26, 2012

On January 26, the EPA Combined Heat and Power Partnership (CHPP) presented at Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the Association of Energy Engineers' Meeting. The topic of the presentation was "Combined Heat and Power: CHP Partnership and the WWTF Sector." The meeting also included a tour of the new CHP plant at the City of York Waste Water Treatment.

Residuals and Biosolids 2010

May 23-26, 2010

On May 25, 2010, the EPA Combined Heat and Power Partnership (CHPP) presented at the annual Biosolids and Residuals Conference hosted by the Water Environment Foundation in Savannah, Georgia. The panel discussion topic was combined heat and power at wastewater treatment facilities and the CHPP presented on the updates scheduled to the Partnership's 2007 report on CHP opportunities at wastewater treatment facilities. Approximately 100 participants attended the presentation, primarily municipal wastewater and water treatment system managers, local government, local utilities and design engineering firms.

Pacific West Biomass Conference and Expo

January 11-13, 2010

On January 11-13, Biomass Magazine organized the Pacific West Biomass Conference and Expo. The conference had an exclusive focus on an exclusive focus on biomass utilization in California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Nevada. The program included more than 90 speakers and moderators, including technical presentations on topics ranging from anaerobic digestion and gasification to combined heat and power and large-scale biomass combustion.

EPA Region 9 in partnership with the CHP Partnership gave a presentation on the opportunities for and benefits of biogas-fueled CHP in the Pacific West region. Specifically, the presentation discussed the current CHP market and benefits of CHP for agricultural operations, wastewater treatment, and landfills; the growth prospects for CHP in these sectors; market drivers and barriers for biogas CHP; and representative case studies.

Waste to Energy Opportunities in Wastewater Treatment Facilities Utilizing Anaerobic Digesters and CHP Concepts and Technologies Webinar

September 22, 2009

On September 22, 2009, the National Association of State Energy Offices (NASEO), the Association of State Energy Research and Technology Transfer Institutions (ASERTTI), and the EPA CHP Partnership co-sponsored a webinar on the energy efficiency opportunities available for wastewater treatment facilities (WWTF) that use the generated biogas from the wastewater treatment process through anaerobic digesters. The webinar incorporated presentations from the DOE Midwest CHP Application Center and the EPA CHP Partnership. Presentation topics included:

  • Basics of Anaerobic Digesters
  • Strategies Utilizing Generated Biogas
  • Concepts and Benefits of Combined Heat and Power (CHP)
  • Incorporating Biogas / CHP Projects in State Energy Programs
  • Examples of Successfully Operating Biogas / CHP Systems in WWTFs

American Public Power Association CHP Meeting

July 23, 2009, Albuquerque, NM

The American Public Power Association (APPA) Exit EPA hosted a meeting on CHP that showcased public power utilities and featured CHP experts who discussed when a CHP system should be considered and how to leverage stimulus funds to install a CHP system. The meeting concluded with a tour of the University of New Mexico's CHP project, which won a 2007 ENERGY STAR CHP Award. The project has an operating efficiency of 64 percent and supplies more than a third of campus electricity needs.

BioPower Generation USA: Growing Opportunities in Biomass Power Generation

July 8-9, 2009, Chicago, IL

GreenPower's fifth BioPower Generation conference examined the latest developments in the U.S. biomass power generation industry across the entire biomass power generation value chain. The EPA CHP Partnership participated in the "Improving Plant Efficiencies" panel to provide an overview of the Partnership and our resources specific to biomass CHP.
