CDM Smith works with its clients around the world to implement innovative energy solutions to meet current and future energy needs. As a full-service consulting, engineering, construction, and operations firm, CDM delivers client service and and value across the entire project life cycle. With more than 5,000 professionals located in over 100 offices throughout the world, CDM has engineers, scientists, modelers, and planners who work together on challenging global projects. Clients include college campuses, hospitals, manufacturing facilities, military bases, airports, and wastewater treatment plants.
CDM Smith also has experience working with CHP. They are currently assisting the District of Columbia's Water and Sewer Authority to implement a bio-solids management program. This project, when completed and integrated into the biogas fueled-CHP and final dewatering portions of the overall project, will constitute the single largest entirely new bio-solids system in the US and the largest thermal hydrolysis system in the world. The sustainability aspects of the project include energy production and pathogen-free bio-solids for beneficial re-use. With CDM's assistance, the Columbia Boulevard Wastewater Treatment Plant has improved its energy efficiency and beneficial use of its digester gas. By replacing the fuel cell and providing new CHP facilities, CDM helped the Bureau of Environmental Services to reach its energy efficiency goals by providing 1.7 MW of power to the treatment plant.
