2009 Main Conference Sessions

Tote Bag Exchange

As we have done in previous years, we are not providing a conference tote bag. Instead, we encourage you to dig through your home or office for a forgotten but clean, like-new canvas or nylon tote from a previous conference, vacation or shopping trip to bring with you to the conference. Drop off your "old but new" bag and pick up a new-to-you bag to carry your conference materials and take back home.

Plenary Sessions

Tuesday, August 18: Welcome and Plenary Activities

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) eleventh Community Involvement Training Conference theme is, "Reaching across Boundaries: Sharing Challenges and Opportunities." In keeping with the conference theme, this opening event sets the stage for a week-long journey acknowledging that boundaries exist all around us and can pose challenges to effectively solving environmental problems. The session will begin with introductory remarks from senior EPA officials followed by a keynote address by Shelly Vendiola, Community Alliance & Peacemaking Project.

Wednesday, August 19: Facilitated Dialogue

During Wednesday's plenary session, conference attendees will participate in a working lunch, including a facilitated dialogue and the presentation of poster awards for Best Overall Award and The People's Choice Award.

Thursday, August 20: Keynote Presentation and Closing Remarks

The Keynote Speaker for the last plenary session is Brian Cladoosby, Chairman of the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community Senate Executive Committee. Mr. Cladoosby also is President of the Association of Washington Tribes. As an active community leader in northwestern Washington, he is very experienced in finding new ways to reach across boundaries and arrive at solutions. Closing remarks will follow Mr. Cladoosby's presentation.
