National Clean Diesel Campaign (NCDC)

Working Together for Cleaner Air

Sector Programs
Overview

EPA, in conjunction with state and local governments, public interest groups, and industry partners, has established a goal of reducing emissions from the existing fleet of diesel engines.

EPA has developed several sector-specific programs that focus on reducing diesel emissions. By reviewing the fleet inventory, EPA identified the industry sectors that provided the best opportunities for significant reductions. In addition, school buses were identified as a sector where controlling diesel emission would greatly benefit a susceptible population - children. Each of these programs provides technical and financial assistance to targeted stakeholders interested in reducing their fleet’s emissions.

The National Diesel Emissions Reduction Program (DERA) is authorized by Title VII, Subtitle G (Sections 791 to 797) of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (EPAct 2005), Public Law 109-58, signed August 8, 2005. This authorization enables EPA’s National Clean Diesel Campaign to offer funding to eligible organizations and entities on a competitive basis. The funding is used to create clean diesel programs that achieve significant reductions in diesel emissions, improve air quality and protect public health.
