U.S. Climate Change Impacts Report
On June 16, 2009, the U.S. Global Change Research Program (USGCRP) in association with the White House released a new report entitled “Global Climate Change Impacts in the United States.” This Report summarizes the science and impacts of climate change on the United States, now and in the future. It discusses climate-related impacts for various societal and environmental sectors and regions across the nation, with the goal of better informing public and private decision making at all levels.
The report is downloadable at the new, interactive Web site GlobalChange.gov. This Web site contains the report itself as well as regional fact sheets highlighting key findings from the report, spotlight features, educational materials, an image library and more.
The report is largely based on results of 21 climate change synthesis and assessment products prepared by the USGCRP in the last four years, three of which were led by EPA:
- Coastal Sensitivity to Sea-Level Rise: A Focus on the Mid-Atlantic Region
- Preliminary review of adaptation options for climate-sensitive ecosystems and resources
- Analyses of the effects of global change on human health and welfare and human systems
The report also incorporates findings from related research from around the world, including the 2007 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change assessments and other recent scientific research since these assessments.
The U.S. Global Change Research Program supports research on the interactions of natural and human-induced changes in the global environment and their implications for society. Participants in the USGCRP include EPA and 12 other Federal agencies.
