State Advisory Board

Status: Completed

Details: Nevada Climate Change Advisory Committee established in June 2007 by the governor. The Committee was tasked with identifying mitigation options and issued its final report in July 2008.

Details: Observer to the Western Climate Initiative, formed February 2007.

GHG Inventory

Status: Completed

Details: On July 14, 2007, Governor Jim Gibbons signed Senate Bill 422, which creates a program to monitor the sources and amount of GHG released in the state. Initial inventory completed in 1998.

Climate Change Action Plan

Status: Completed

Details: The Nevada Climate Change Advisory Committee released its final report on May 31, 2008. An Executive Order signed by the governor on April 10, 2007, established the committee and charged it with developing recommendations for reducing Nevada's GHG emissions and implementing renewable energy resources.

Reporting

Electricity Disclosure

Status: Completed

Details: Electric utilities must disclose the average mix of fuel sources used to create electricity, average emissions, customer service information, and information on low-income energy programs (2002). Beginning October 1, 2001, each electric utility must disclose certain information to its customers, according to regulations established by the Nevada Public Service Commission.

GHG Registry

Status: In Progress

Details: Member of The Climate Registry - a collaboration aimed at developing and managing a common GHG emissions reporting system across states, provinces, and tribes. It will provide an accurate, complete, consistent, transparent, and verified set of GHG emissions data from reporting entities, supported by a robust accounting and verification infrastructure. Members released a final General Reporting Protocol in May 2008. The Climate Registry plans to start accepting data in summer 2008.
