Company Description
Alcan Aluminum Corporation is a U.S. subsidiary of Alcan, Inc., one of the largest aluminum and packaging companies in the world. With annual revenues of approximately $13 billion, Alcan employs 48,000 people in 38 countries. Alcan has been reducing its greenhouse gas emissions since the early 1990s. In the U.S., Alcan, under a voluntary partnership with EPA, has reduced its PFC emissions by 60 percent to date. Further, Alcan is committed in aluminum can recycling. The recycling of aluminum requires 95 percent less energy necessary to manufacture primary aluminum, thereby avoiding 95 percent of the generation of additional greenhouse gases. Alcan is committed to taking ongoing actions—increasing production efficiencies, becoming more 'carbon' efficient, marketing products that contribute to reduced greenhouse gas emissions in use, and expanding recycling—to achieve even greater greenhouse gas reductions.

"Alcan is committed to continually improving its environmental management systems and to contributing to environmental solutions for our customers. The Climate Leaders Program, by encouraging and recognizing greenhouse gas reductions, provides an excellent opportunity for us to further demonstrate our continued progress in improving emissions efficiency in a way that accommodates economic growth." - Rick Lawrence, Director, Global Greenhouse Gas Reduction Program
