Reasons for Joining Climate Leaders
The company’s environmental performance is the result of our commitment to our corporate values, which form the foundation of our policies, ethics, corporate culture and business strategies. The company’s values embody the spirit of sustainability and lead the company to socially responsible behavior in our workplaces and in our communities, and are reflected in the products and services we provide to customers.
GHG Reductions Before Joining Climate Leaders
Johnson Controls is a company that was founded more than 122 years ago based on a product that reduced energy use in buildings. Since that time, the company has remained dedicated to creating a more sustainable world and to helping customers do the same. The company makes buildings “greener” through technologies and services that consume less energy, cause less pollution and use resources efficiently. As the world’s largest energy efficiency provider, Johnson Controls helps save billions of dollars of energy costs for customers. When energy efficiency increases, both utility costs and greenhouse gas emissions decrease.
Approach to GHG Management
Energy efficiency is a core business within Johnson Controls. The company’s technologies have been used successfully for decades to help reduce costs and emissions related to energy production and consumption both internally and for our customers. In addition, the company is investing heavily in renewables to take advantage of the significant growth that industry is experiencing. Johnson Controls has already implemented several renewable projects for its customers that include solar, wind, geothermal, digester gas cogeneration and biomass fuel usage. Similar measures are being investigated for internal use.
Progress Towards Goal Completion
Johnson Controls is on track to experience significant domestic and international organic growth in the near future. Nonetheless, the company remains steadfast in its efforts to achieve its EPA Climate Leaders 2012 goal. The company is also investigating a similar goal for our entire global operations and is confident that energy efficiency experience will ensure continued success.
