Projected Coastal Impacts of Climate Change
Projected impacts may include:
- Migration inland of marshes as sea level rises (coastal upland is replaced by high salt marsh, high marsh is replaced by low marsh, and low marsh is replaced by inter-tidal flats)
- Stronger storms leading to disintegration of barrier islands
- Loss of wetlands
- Coastal erosion
- Salt water intrusion
- Decreased water quality (lower oxygen levels, more algal blooms)
