Cleanup Enforcement

In addition to the numerous programs within EPA that promote and/or facilitate sustainable development, several EPA Regions have taken the lead in this area.

• Region 3 held a sustainable development workshop for its project managers, and other Regions are planning similar training exercises.
• EPA Region 4 collaboratively worked with the State of Georgia, the City of Atlanta, and the Department of Transportation to turn the old Atlantic Steel site into Atlantic Station, a compatible and sustainable mixed use development.
• Regions 5 and 7 co-sponsored the Midwest Summit on Sustainable Development of Brownfields conference in June 2003 and sponsored an ongoing series of lectures in sustainable development in 2004.
