April 2004 Observance
Intergovernmental Partnerships
National Environmental CrimePrevention Week
The theme continues:
"Learn the Signs of Environmental Crime"
National Environmental Crime Prevention Week took place April 11 - 17, 2004. This year two conferences were held concurrently. Salt Lake City, Utah and Princeton, New Jersey hosted numerous exciting and educational activities prior to and during National Environmental Crime Prevention Week. These conferences brought together environmental enforcement professionals from throughout the United States to learn cutting-edge investigative and prosecutive techniques and to explore innovative enforcement initiatives.
The Southern Environmental Enforcement Network created a new poster to celebrate the 2004 conference. Clearly, the environment we protect today belongs to our youth, who will bear the responsibility for protecting it tomorrow. Therefore, we have again adopted America's 6th graders and engaged them in the call to "Learn The Signs of Environmental Crime."
In addition to developing an environmental crime enforcement and prevention package that teachers and environmental enforcement professionals will present to students, the characters from the Grime Crime comic book made an encore appearance.
From the President of the United States: "During National Environmental Crime Prevention Week, the Environmental Protection Agency and other organizations educate the public about preventing and reporting environmental crimes that harm our natural resources."
