Characteristics and Performance of Regional Transportation Systems
This report is currently being updated and revised to address certain issues regarding the data and methods used in the analysis, and to provide users with more direction on the proper interpretation of the study's results. As the original report indicates, this exploratory study is one of the first to examine the relationship of regional level transportation system characteristics to selected measures of transportation and environmental performance. Given the complexity of the topic and the limitations of the best available data, it is important to understand that the study is intended to be a first step towards identifying factors that contribute to better regional transportation and environmental performance. It is intended to begin a more thorough exploration of these issues in the research community, and as such, suggests direction for future research and not direction for current policy. The updated study will be revised to reiterate and emphasize its limitations and provide greater discussion on data issues and their possible implications.
