Agriculture Street Landfill Air Sampling Data
Explanation of Instruments
Personal Data Rams (PDRs) measure real-time dust concentrations in the air. These instruments are placed around excavation areas to record dust levels so that additional dust suppression measures can be implemented if necessary. The PDR action level is one milligram per cubic meter (mg/m3). If this level is exceeded the IT group is notified and water is sprayed around the excavation areas to suppress the dust.
High Volume Air Samplers are instruments that draw large volumes of air through a filter over a period of time. The filter is then analyzed at a laboratory to determine the amount of Total Suspended Particulates (TSP) and Total Lead. Using the length of time and the volume of air, TSP and Lead concentrations are determined in micrograms per cubic meter (ug/m3). The action levels for modification of engineering practices are 150 ug/m3 for TSp and 1.5 mg/m3 for lead. The EPA is notified of exceedences upon receipt and processing of analytical data. Like PDRs, High Volume Samplers are also placed around excavation areas.
Summa Passivated Canisters are negative pressure cylinders that collect samples to be analyzed by a laboratory for volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
