The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and EPA are offering a CAMEOfm instructor certification program.
The purpose of the certification program is to establish high standards of professionalism and expertise for CAMEOfm trainers. This program will attempt to provide a measure of quality assurance and competency within the CAMEOfm training network.
This is a voluntary certification program. You do not have to become certified to teach CAMEOfm. Certification does have benefits. By becoming certified, you will be:
- Recognized as an expert CAMEOfm/ALOHA user and trainer by those who developed CAMEOfm and ALOHA;
- Recognized as an expert by those you intend to train;
- Targeted for beta test releases of future program upgrades;
The Certification Process
The process is divided into two steps, (1) Requesting the Exam (2) Completing the Exam
(1) Requesting the Exam
Before you can take the certification examination, you must e-mail your name, address, agency, phone numbers, and location you are taking the test to the CAMEOfm team at cameo_certification@epa.gov. You must also provide contact information, (name, address, location and time the test is to be given) for the test proctor. The purpose of the test proctor is to ensure the integrity of CAMEOfm testing process.
(2) Completing the Exam
The test proctor should receive the test and keep it confidential until the time the test is to be taken. The test proctor should then administer the test for the allotted time period and then collect the test. Once collection is complete the test proctor should mail the tests to the CAMEOfm team at:CAMEOfm Team

You will be notified within several weeks after the exam of your score. To become certified, you must receive a score of 85% or higher on the exam. If you pass you will receive a certificate in the mail. If you fail, you will also receive notification. You must wait at least two months before retaking a different certification exam.
The CAMEOfm exam has true-false and multiple choice questions. Each exam requires approximately 1 hour to take, but 2 hours is allowed. It is all closed book. A passing grade for each exam is 85%.
The majority of the questions found on the exam can be answered by studying the user manuals and using the program. However, even though the exam focuses primarily on CAMEO, there are questions which we believe a student may ask which are relevant to teaching CAMEO but will not be found in any of the manuals.
