Headquarters EMS

EPA Headquarters is the largest of 32 EPA locations that are developing Environmental Management Systems (EMSs). Headquarters EMS identifies the environmental impacts associated with the 20 Headquarters facilities and nearly 8,000 Headquarters employees throughout the Washington, DC, metropolitan area, and then measures and works to minimize those environmental impacts.

The Headquarters EMS was crafted under the guidance of an EMS Core Team and EMS Advisory Committee representing all of EPA’s program offices. It is a robust example of how a large organization can use an EMS to bring together numerous parties to help improve its environmental performance. Key elements of Headquarters EMS include:
