Wilton Armetale is a non-ferrous foundry located in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
Overview
This area of Pennsylvania is home to some of the largest and oldest Amish settlements in the country, so the company is surrounded by environmentally conscious people. Wilton Armetale is a leader in its efforts to be a good neighbor and in its approach to environmental standards. Wilton Armetale self-declared ISO 14001 conformance on July 23rd, 1997. They became the first foundry in the United States to conform.
Benefits
In its effort to be environmentally responsible and certify to ISO 14000, the company achieved some significant results:
- Reduced waste costs by about 40 percent over two years.
- Found that 60 to 70 percent of the waste generated could be reused, recycled, or eliminated.
- Vendors were asked to use returnable packaging. Skids and excess packaging were given away to individuals and companies who could use them. These reduced the cost of storing, hauling, and disposing of waste.
- The quantities of some raw material inputs to the manufacturing process were eliminated or reduced.
