Definition:
The Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) Registry Number (CASRN) is a unique number assigned by CAS to each distinct chemical substance recorded in the CAS Chemical Registry System. CASRN is stored as a 9-digit alphanumeric field with leading zeros. The output display is in the format zzzznn-nn-n with suppression of leading zeros. Each CASRN is processed through a check-digit algorithm to determine validity. The CASRN data field is blank if not known.
