Query Form User's Guide
RADINFO allows users to query the system by location or regulation to identify facilities governed by certain EPA radiation protection regulations. The database can also be used to find out more information about these regulations or about specific individual radionuclides.
Select more than one query option at a time to speed up the query and make the retrieval more focused. Using different search criteria in conjunction with one another will narrow the scope of the query; using them in separate queries will broaden the search. Only information about those facilities matching all of the specified criteria will be retrieved.
Facility Selection Option
Facility Name
Enter the complete or partial facility name to retrieve information about all facilities with that name. Select the "Containing" option when entering a partial name for a better retrieval the first time you access the data. When an "exact match" option is specified for a facility name, do not specify other query options; only one facility will be retrieved.
Facility Identification Option Value
Enter the complete or partial facility ID to retrieve all facilities with that ID. Select the "Containing" option when entering a partial ID for a better retrieval the first time you access the data. When an "exact match" option is specified for a facility ID, do not specify other query options; only one facility will be retrieved.
Geography Search Option
To search based on geographical information, you may either use the map to indicate a state of interest, or you may specify more specific geographic criteria, such as city or county.
Select State
To select an area in which to search, click on that state or territory within the map provided or on the text link for the state or territory, located below the map. Once a geographic area is selected, narrow your search if desired by entering a city or county name. The query will return a list of facilities located in the geographic area specified.
Geograhy Options
You may also select from one or more of the following six geographical search options: Address, ZIP Code, City, County, State, or EPA Region. You may enter a partial value for any geography option except for the state value. We strongly recommend that you enter a small geographical area to begin the search if you elect to use the multisystem facility information to perform your facility search.

Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) Search Option
Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) DescriptionThis option allows you to retrieve information about SIC classifications using a text search. Enter a complete or partial SIC code description to obtain a list of all SIC codes under that description. For example, entering "metal" will retrieve all facilities with SIC codes that have "metal" somewhere in the SIC description. Click on "Use RADINFO SIC Code Values" to retrieve data from RADINFO only or "Use Facility Identification SIC Code Values" to retrieve data from the Facility Identification Tables included within the Envirofacts Warehouse.
Standard Industrial Classification Code
The SIC Code entry can be four digits or fewer. If it is more than four digits, an error message will appear. The first two digits in the code define a major business sector, and the last two digits denote a facility's specialty within the major sector. Click on "Use RADINFO SIC Code Values" to retrieve data from RADINFO or "Use Facility Identification SIC Code Values" to retrieve data from the Facility Identification Tables included within the Envirofacts Warehouse. You can browse the SIC Code manual for possible entries by clicking on the button entitled "Lookup SIC Code." This search is provided by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
Pollutant Search Option
Radionuclide Name
You can retrieve information about facilities with radioactive materials/contaminants in general by entering "radiation," "radionuclide," or "radioactivity." If you elect to use the multisystem query option, you can also enter the name of a specific radionuclide. However, the data returned will not include facility information contained within RADINFO until the next phase of system development is completed.
Chemical Abstract Service (CAS) Number
Use the "Look Up CAS Number" button to select a CAS Number, or enter the radionuclide's CAS Number in the field. If both Radionuclide Name and CAS Number are entered, only the CAS Number will be used in the search.
Radionuclide Registry
Click on the "Radionuclide Registry" button to access additional technical information about specific radionuclides. The Radionuclide Query Form allows you to obtain descriptive information about individual radionuclides and their isotopes, including the chemical symbol, the chemical identification number (CAS number), and the radioactive half-life. The Registry also provides a link to information about the individual or cumulative risk associated with exposure to radiation (e.g., Federal Guidance 13). To access risk information, click on the "Link to Federal Guidance 13" button.
To access the Registry, use the drop-down list and select the name of a specific radionuclide. As an alternative, you may begin entering the name of the radionuclide in the Radionuclide Query Form. The system will automatically scroll to that portion of the Registry beginning with the letters entered. The drop-down list provides both the name of the radionuclide and its isotopes. For example, to learn more about radium and its specific isotopes, you could begin typing the word "radium."
Radiation Regulation Search Option
You can also identify facilities governed by a particular regulation. Select a desired regulation from the drop-down list or choose the "All Regulations" option to identify facilities governed by certain EPA regulations regarding the use, storage, and emission of, or contamination by, radioactive materials currently included within RADINFO.
