2008-103 -- Air Quality Impacts on Ecosystem Services
- An example impact on ecosystem service that would be of interest to research during this project includes, but is not limited to, nitrogen enrichment of the landscape causing changes in biodiversity, dominant species, fish production, recreational uses, water quality, etc. For example, nitrogen deposition can lead to increased nitrogen in surface waters which leads to increased algal growth, leading to increased fisheries; until the algae die and use up oxygen in decomposition, which then causes fish kills and impacts recreational uses of the waterway.

2008-104 -- Potomac Watershed Land Prioritization Strategy
- The project officer has indicated that the will have to work on site in Philadelphia during the summer months, but may work remotely from a university location while attending school in the fall.

2008-303 -- Environmental Stewardship and Pollution Prevention Fellowship Program
- The project officer has indicated that the preference is for the fellow to work on site at the New York office [part-time or full-time], rather than remotely. However, all applications will be considered.

2008-306 -- Long Island Sound Habitat Restoration
- The project does not require field mapping of Phragmites. Instead, available aerial photographs woill be interpreted. However, some field verification of wetlands and tidal
restrictions at specific sites could be beneficial. The fellow could work with other wetland ecologists to conduct these site reviews.

2008-401 -- How Effective Is Environmental Education?
- The project officer has indicated that there are three separate research questions in the project description and it is expected that the student will focus on one of them for his or her application/proposal. The start date is flexible. If a PhD thesis-level research proposal is funded, it is expected that it could take the student up to 3 years to complete the data gathering and write the dissertation--that is the maximum time that will be funded. EPA is willing to negotiate how much time the studnet is provided to finish the project.
- The student is expected to concentrate their application/proposal on only one of the topics. A dissertation level study would focus on only one of these research topics, not a combination of them.
