STAR supports the research of investigators at universities and nonprofit organizations. Cutting-edge science and proof-of-concept projects are supported in research areas consistent with EPA’s mission and vision (focus areas are chosen each year). Past research has included technology areas with a focus on green chemistry and engineering. Current emphasis is on nanotechnology. Grants average about $350,000 per year for three years.
