Exit Icon

EPA procedure regarding links to external sites. In particular, do not add "Exit Disclaimer" icons to links for other federal government sites. To help readers identify the target agency, the link text should indicate the agency: U.S. Dept. of Agriculture's Invasive Species Management.

For External EPA Links

Specifics

  • Example code:
    <a href="http://www.epa.gov/epahome/exitepa.htm" title="EPA's External Link Disclaimer"><img src="http://www.epa.gov/epafiles/images/epafiles_misc_exitepadisc.gif" width="87" height="13" alt="Exit EPA Disclaimer" /></a>
  • The icon shall be linked to http://www.epa.gov/epahome/exitepa.htm.
  • This icon is the official image and is used in the code provided: Exit EPA Disclaimer. (For pages in Spanish, use this icon: Salida y denegación)
  • Use of other images is by exception.
    • A smaller exit icon is available, but only for Quick Finders (34x9px): Exit EPA Disclaimer
    • Example code for small Exit icon (Quick Finder only):
      <a href="http://www.epa.gov/epahome/exitepa.htm" title="EPA's External Link Disclaimer"><img src="http://www.epa.gov/epafiles/images/epafiles_misc_exitepadiscsmallest.gif" width="34" height="9" alt="Exit EPA Disclaimer" /></a>

Changes

  • Links to other federal government Web sites no longer need an exit disclaimer icon.
  • The image for the Exit Disclaimer has been replaced. Compare:
    • Old:OLD EXIT DISCLAIMER-DO NOT USE and OLD EXIT DISCLAIMER ICON-DO NOT USE
    • New:Exit EPA Disclaimer and Salida y denegación
  • The image size remains the same. Old links do not need to be updated.
    • If you downloaded the old image and used a local copy on your web site, stop that.
    • Start linking to the epafiles version of the exit icon.
  • A smaller image has been provided, but with limited use: Exit EPA Disclaimer
