Life at EPA

Carl Etsitty Microbiologist As a microbiologist and the American Indian special emphasis program manager for the USEPA Pesticides Programs Office, I have been employed by EPA for five years. I hail from the great State of Arizona - Navajo Nation. My educational training has led me to become a soil, water and environmental scientist, holding a master's degree with a molecular/microbiology emphasis. My daily routine is to review human health and product chemistry data packages for new ("old") biological pesticides registration. On a collateral duties basis, I meet with the Office of Human Resources and Office of Civil Rights in relation to employee matters, and act as an adjunct Human Resource Council Member. Also, I am a Tribal team member. I came to work at EPA because of my experiences growing up. While herding sheep on the Navajo Nation, I told the four-legged and Mother Earth that "I will forever be a steward of the land," and I envisioned myself within the Environmental Protection Agency and/or another regulatory agency. I have had quite a number of memorable moments working at EPA. My supervisor, Phil Hutton, has an unforgettable and great management style, a model to live up to. I received a recognition award from my fellow colleagues. I have a chance to perform with the Program Director and Assistant Administrator, and I work with great people. In fact, my dedicated colleagues not only uphold the highest professional standards here, but they are my friends, too! |
