Searching for Federal Jobs Through the Office of
Personnel Management USAJOBS Site

In order to search for job openings within the Environmental Protection Agency in Las Vegas, and the Federal Government in general, you must access the Office of Personnel Management's USAJOBS information service, a centralized database of employment opportunities.

This service offers information through the World Wide Web, by Telephone, by Fax, by the Federal Job Opportunities Bulletin Board System, and by Federal Job Information Kiosks. The USAJOBS database offers information about a wide variety of Federal employment-related topics and programs, current job openings (updated nightly), as well as providing application packages and downloadable forms.

When searching for specific jobs in your field, you must first know the Standard Occupational Series Code in order to properly use the search mechanism. The Series Codes are the most direct way to find jobs in a particular field because they do not vary from Federal Agency or Department, but are standards for all Federal jobs. Although some series codes are listed as three digit numbers, the search mechanism will reject the code unless it is placed in a four digit format. For example, if the series code for your profession is "334", you need to enter "0334" as the correct series code. To search for environmentally specific jobs by their series codes, please refer to the EPA and Environmental Standard Occupational Series Code page. Find the job title in which you are interested, make a note of its series code, access the USAJOBS database, and begin your search.
