Daniel T. Heggem

My primary work includes Division management.  My research activities focus on using landscape characteristics and patterns to understand ecosystem sustainability.  This research studies the relationship between landscape characteristics and survey style measurements and observations.  Landscape indicators are used as measures of ecosystem condition, properly functioning condition and ecological values.  Past research activities have included: support for the Gulf and Alaskan Oil Spills, Western EMAP Landscape Program, research to support the use of oil-degrading bacteria to clean up oil in an environmentally acceptable manner, implemented a research program to determine the status and trends of the Nation’s rangeland ecosystems, and incineration testing of PCBs, in support of the PCB Transformer Fires Rule to study the thermal degradation products from dielectric fluids.
