Save Our Species: Shortnose Sturgeon

image of Shortnose Sturgeon

This 3-foot long fish can live to be 50 years old. It likes the bays and mouths of rivers along the Atlantic coast from Canada to Florida. It hunts at night along the sea floor. In the spring, the sturgeon returns to the freshwater streams where it was born to lay eggs. Dams on streams have cut this fish off from its breeding areas.
