Urban Runoff
|
Nationally, urban runoff is identified as a leading cause of stream impairment, with almost 35,000 miles impaired. Population growth and development will make this issue even more important. More cost-effective and sustainable techniques of dealing with urban runoff are needed, in particular, preventative approaches such as low-impact development. The Urban Runoff Action Team will perform a national performance assessment of storm water management programs in impaired urban watersheds, conduct a field pilot project to enhance existing practices for improving water quality, and show environmental results by conducting in-stream water quality monitoring and conducting state outreach activities.
