California Grants Program and ETV to Collaborate
The California Air Resources Board’s (ARB) Innovative Clean Air Technologies (ICAT) grants program is soliciting applications for this year’s grants. Air monitoring, pollution prevention and control, and greenhouse gas technologies are of interest. A short pre-proposal, as described in the grant instructions is due to ARB by March 30, 2007. ICAT and ETV are interested in collaborating. Vendors who want to pursue ETV verification with ICAT support must submit pre-proposals to ICAT to begin. Please contact Kevin Cleary, ICAT Manager, at (916) 323-1505 if you have any questions.

New Technology for Environmental Solutions – Collaborating for Result
The U.S. EPA ETV and Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Programs will host a joint regional outreach workshop on May 8, 2007, at the EPA Region 6 offices in Dallas, TX. The workshop, “New Technology for Environmental Solutions–Collaborating for Results,” will highlight technology development, commercialization, and verification activities supported and conducted by the ETV and SBIR Programs. In particular, the event will highlight ETV and SBIR collaborations with state and local agencies, organizations and technology developers in EPA Region 6 (Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana). The workshop will also include opportunities for representatives from the regional office and local organizations to provide feedback on priority technology areas and information needs. The event is open to the public. Target audiences include the EPA Region, state and local agencies and organizations, and others interested in learning more about technology development, evaluation, and commercialization activities under these programs, as well as organizations that might be interested in future collaborations with ETV. Additional information will be available soon on the ETV Web site, or contact Abby Waits, EPA, at (513) 569-7884.

ETV Protocol Used as Basis for ASTM Method
On February 1, 2007, the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) approved ASTM/ETV Guide D7270-07, “Standard Guide for Environmental and Performance Verification of Factory-Applied Liquid Coatings.” With the help of one of its stakeholders, Eugene Praschan, the ETV Coatings and Coating Equipment Pilot (CCEP) worked for several years with ASTM Committee D01 on Paint and Related Coatings, Materials, and Applications and its Subcommittee D01.55 (Factory-Applied Coatings on Preformed Products) to develop this ASTM practice, which is based on CCEP’s generic verification protocol for liquid coatings (see http://www.epa.gov/etv/pubs/06_vp_liq_coat.pdf). Publication of this guide further extends ETV’s influence in evaluating environmentally friendly coating technologies. For more information, please contact Mike Kosusko, EPA, at (919) 541-2734.
