Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) Program
ETV/SBIR Regional Outreach Workshop a Success
On May 8, 2007, the U.S. EPA ETV and Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Programs hosted an outreach workshop at the EPA Region 6 office in Dallas, TX. Over 100 participants representing the EPA regional office, state and local governments, technology developers, academia, and others, participated in the workshop. Representatives from the ETV centers and their collaborators, such as the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and the University of Houston, presented on recent and upcoming verifications. SBIR technology developers discussed technology development and commercialization supported by EPA. Meeting participants provided feedback on priority technology and performance information needs. ETV and SBIR vendors exhibited and/or demonstrated their technologies, and ETV provided posters highlighting collaborative verifications. A meeting summary report will be available soon on the ETV Web site at http://www.epa.gov/etv/publications.html.

The ETV Air Pollution Control Technology Center, in cooperation with RTI International, has verified the performance of Donaldson Company, Inc.’s 6277 filtration media for controlling fine particulate matter (PM2.5) emissions. The fabric filter was evaluated for the following parameters: outlet particle concentration at standard conditions (for PM2.5 and total mass), average and initial residual pressure drop, residual pressure drop increase, filtration cycle time, mass gain of test sample filter, and number of cleaning cycles. The report and statement are available on the ETV Web site.

Mobile Source Device Verified
The ETV Air Pollution Control Technology Center, in cooperation with RTI International, has verified the performance of the CCD15010 Fuel with HiTEC4121 Additive, developed by Flint Hills Resources, LP. This emissions control system consists of a diesel fuel formulation and an additive. The performance verified was the percentage emission reduction achieved by the fuel formulation for particulate matter, nitrogen oxides, hydrocarbons, and carbon monoxide, relative to the performance of the same baseline engine with standard ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel. Operating conditions were documented and ancillary performance measurements were also made. The report and statement are available on the ETV Web site.
