ETV Participates in Science Forum and International Working Group Meeting in Washington, DC
In May, ETV participated in a series of environmental technology-related events in Washington, DC. On May 19, the Program held its annual team meeting to discuss program activities and future directions. On May 20–22, ETV representatives participated in the EPA Science Forum 2008, “Innovative Technologies: Key to Environmental and Economic Progress.” This year’s Forum included four thematic tracks: Technology Advances and Future Directions; Energy, Climate and the Environment; Water Systems Infrastructure and Security; and Facilitating Technology Development and Commercialization through Partnerships. ETV representatives and collaborators chaired sessions or presented on program-related topics, such as verification of portable imaging devices for industrial leak detection at petroleum refineries and chemical plants, pesticide spray drift reduction technologies, drinking water treatment systems, greenhouse gas technologies, and collaborative U.S. Coast Guard/EPA verification of ballast water exchange screening tools. Fourteen posters and exhibits featuring ETV verification efforts and a variety of companies with products that have been verified were on display as part of the Forum’s Environmental Technology Expo, designed to showcase cutting-edge, innovative technologies for solving environmental problems. The ETV Program also exhibited at the Science Forum.
On May 22–23, the U.S. EPA ETV Program hosted the 4th Meeting of the International Working Group on Environmental Technology Verification (IWG-ETV) at the EPA Office of International Affairs. Representatives from the U.S., Canada, European Union, China, Korea, Philippines, Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, and EPA Office of Environmental Information attended. Discussion topics included updates on verification program activities around the world, mechanisms for international cooperation on technology verification, on-going joint verifications, and development of international standards for ETV quality management systems.
