Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) Program
ETV Participates In International Environmental Technology Verification Forums
On November 26–30, ETV Program Director Teresa Harten, ETV team members Lora Johnson and Evelyn Hartzell, and Karen Riggs from the Battelle, ETV Advanced Monitoring Systems Center, participated in international events related to technology performance verification in Paris, France. The European Commission (EC) hosted the Third European Forum on Eco-Innovation: Boosting Eco-Technologies through Verification. A proposal for an European Union (EU) scheme for ETV was presented and debated. Aspects of existing systems and EU pilot efforts were also discussed. The EC announced plans to release a solicitation for international verification support activities. U.S. ETV representatives presented at the forum.
International aspects of environmental performance verification were further discussed at the Third International Forum on Systems for Environmental Performance Verification: Engaging the Developing World. Characteristics of developing and global markets were discussed with an emphasis on building political, technical, and social capacity for verification, as well as crafting programs that meet information needs in developing countries. U.S. ETV representatives presented at this forum, which was held in conjunction with Pollutec Horizons 2007. ETV exhibited in the U.S. pavilion at Pollutec and will work with the U.S. Commercial Service to continue relaying information about ETV to the European community.
The International Working Group on Environmental Technology Verification is investigating the formation of a common approach to verification, with the goal of establishing mutual recognition in the future.
