Environmental Technology Verification Centers Funding Announcement

A reminder that EPA’s National Risk Management Research Laboratory (NRMRL) has issued an announcement for a request for applications for competitive cooperative agreements to design and operate five Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) verification centers: Air Pollution Control Technology Center, Drinking Water Systems Center, Greenhouse Gas Technology Center, Water Quality Protection Center, and Materials Management and Remediation Center. EPA anticipates awarding five separate cooperative agreements (one for each of the five centers being competed) from this announcement. The request for applications opened December 12, 2007, and closes January 28, 2008, at 4:30 p.m., EST. Applications can be submitted in printed hardcopy form by mail or electronically through Grants.gov (see Section IV).

U.S. and Canada to Develop Joint Protocol for Verification Testing

U.S. ETV’s Advanced Monitoring Systems (AMS) Center, operated by Battelle, is currently working with ETV Canada to develop a joint verification protocol. In April 2007, the AMS center published a generic verification protocol for rapid soil toxicity technologies (PDF) (45 pp, 208 KB). The protocol is now being revised in collaboration with ETV Canada. The new protocol will include procedures for joint verification of soil toxicity technologies by both ETV programs. The joint protocol is anticipated to be published in Spring 2008.

January 9–11, 2008
International Advances in Pesticide Application 2008 will be held at Robinson College, Cambridge, United Kingdom. This international conference, hosted by the Association of Applied Biologists, provides an opportunity to discuss pesticide (and biopesticide) application issues in an informal setting with platform and poster presentations. Key workers from research institutes, industry, and regulatory authorities will provide a unique mix of biological and engineering sciences. The ETV ESTE project, Pesticide Drift Reduction Technologies, will present “Encouraging the Use of Drift Reduction Technologies in the United States.”
