From 2002 to 2004, this effort verified the performance of fumigants for building decontamination, such as hydrogen peroxide vapor, formaldehyde, and chloride dioxide gas. The target agents included Bacillus anthracis (biological), nerve agent VX, nerve agent GD (soman), and sulfur mustard agent HD. These technologies were verified through a contract with Battelle.
In 2004, testing of these types of technologies was transferred to EPA’s National Homeland Security Research Center (NHSRC) under its Technology Testing and Evaluation program.
