AGENCY: Minerals Management Service.
ACTION: Notice of Availability of the Draft Environmental Impact Statement and Locations and Dates of Public Hearings.
The Minerals Management Service (MMS) has prepared a draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) relating to the proposed 1996 Outer Continental Shelf oil and gas lease sale of available unleased blocks in the Beaufort Sea. The proposed Beaufort Sea Sale 144 will offer for lease approximately 9.8 million acres. Single copies of the draft EIS can be obtained from the Regional Director, Minerals Management Service, Alaska Region, 949 East 36th Avenue, Anchorage, Alaska 99503-4302, Attention: Public

North Slope Borough, Assembly Chambers, Barrow, Alaska, 7:30 p.m.The hearings will provide the Secretary of the Interior with information from Government agencies and the public which will help in the evaluation of the potential effects of the proposed lease sale. Interested individuals, representatives of organizations, and public officials wishing to testify at the hearings are asked to contact the Regional Director at the above address or Ray Emerson by telephone (907) 271-6650 or toll free 1-800-764-2627 by October 20, 1995.
Time limitations may make it necessary to limit the length of oral presentations to 10 minutes. An oral statement may be supplemented by a more complete written statement which may be submitted to a hearing official at the time of oral presentation or by mail until November 20, 1995. This will allow those unable to testify at a public hearing an opportunity to make their views known and for those presenting oral testimony to submit supplemental information and comments. Comments concerning the draft EIS will be accepted until November 20, 1995, and should be addressed to the Regional Director, Minerals Management Service, Alaska Region, 949 East 36th Avenue, Anchorage, Alaska 99508-4302.Dated: August 10, 1995.
